About this limited edition photograph:
The light painted photograph “Reap and Sow, Pedal and Grow” was created on the Trout Run Trail on the south edge of town in Decorah, Iowa.
To create this light painted photograph I placed my Canon T3i camera on a tripod and I used a long exposure of 1529 seconds. This is one of my longest camera exposures to date. My assistant Ashley Kjome balanced on her bike using a stick in her left hand as a kickstand while I walked around popping a camera flash to illuminate her. I wrote out the words “Trout Run” using a powerful spotlight with a long tube over the front. The corn was created by hand by drawing them one at a time using a small LED panel with a green colored gel filter. The tassels on the top were created by drawing them with a yellow LED. I then took one step to the side, and drew another stalk of corn, repeating the process until I was satisfied with my row of “light corn”. Finally, I used my spotlight to cast light onto the timber framed shelter in the distance. You can see how much time elapsed by looking at the length of the star trail in the sky.
This photograph came off my camera as-is, and involved zero post-processing or Photoshop.
