About this limited edition photograph:

The photograph “Arkansas Cave- One” was created in a private cave located in Newton County, Arkansas.

This private cave in Arkansas was once a show cave full of paved walkways, handrails and lights. Closed for decades, the private owners of the cave wished to revert the cave back to its original natural state. Over the years, members of the Iowa Grotto (National Speleological Society) have made trips down to Arkansas to volunteer their efforts to remove as much of the man-made items as possible. While the sidewalks remain, the bulk of the handrails, wiring and lights have been removed.

I created this long exposure light painted photograph by setting up my Canon 80d camera with a Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX II lens on a tripod. My assistant Scott Dankof assisted me with placing a few LED light panels at various locations around the cave formations. I triggered my camera’s shutter, and then I used my ElSpeleo Rescue 2200 caving headlamp to light paint the front side of the cave formations during the 2.5 second exposure.
