About this limited edition photograph:
The light painted photograph “Electric Deer” was created at the Water Street Park in Decorah, Iowa.
The two stainless steel deer sculptures were created by Cedar Falls based sculptor- Victoria Reed.
To create this light painted photograph I placed my Canon T3i camera on a tripod and I used a long exposure of 65 seconds. I used a red and a blue colored gel filter over my flashlight to paint light onto each deer sculpture. Being stainless steel, each deer reflected my light nicely, and made for a bright metallic look. One challenge with this particular location was the close proximity of street lights. This made me keep my camera exposure short to prevent the tungsten light from overexposing. The lightning in the background was not expected, but added a nice touch.
This photograph came off my camera as-is, and involved zero post-processing or Photoshop.
