About this limited edition photograph:

The blended/stacked photograph “Grizzly Campsite- Star Circles” was created in the Yellow River State Forest in northeast Iowa.

Grizzly Campsite- Star Circles is a commissioned photograph for Grizzly Coolers out of Decorah, Iowa.

Comprised of (6) exposures (ranging from 1/2 – 10 seconds in exposure length, ISO-1000 – ISO-1600, and all f/3.2) for the foreground and (118) 25-second exposures (f/3.2 and ISO-1000) for the sky/stars.

I created this blended/stacked photograph by setting up my Canon 80d camera with a Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX II lens on a tripod. I used my ElSpeleo Rescue 2200 caving headlamp to light paint the tree, stumps, hatchet, and cooler. I placed a cheap LED flashlight inside my tent to illuminate it within, and I took a photograph of the fire pit. I then created a timelapse ((118) 25-second exposures) to capture the stars. I used free software called StarStax to stack all 118 exposures of the stars into star trails, and I used the “Comet Mode” setting to turn those star trails into comets. I blended the six foreground photographs and the star trails photograph together using Photoshop, and the resulting image is Grizzly Campsite- Star Circles.
