About this limited edition photograph:

The light painted photograph “Hazy Catwalk” was created at the Trout Run Trail highway 9 bridge in Decorah, Iowa.

The Trout Run Trail overpass bridge is somewhat of a rare design. The use of a post-tensioning system, integral abutments, and high-strength concrete provides a low maintenance and durable structure that produces a low-profile pedestrian bridge.

I placed my Canon T3i camera on a tripod and used a long exposure of 219 seconds to create this light painted photograph. I created the blue spirograph effect by taping blue LEDs to the circumference of a 14″ diameter wheel. I then rolled the wheel along the top surface of the bridge’s hand rail. I created the green spirograph effect by taping green LEDs to a 3ft diameter circle of plywood. I attached a handle to the plywood circle and then I rolled the circle along the surface of the bridge’s sidewalk. My father John Steven Kjome assisted me with rolling these two handmade light tools across the bridge. The highway traffic below the bridge provided some nice headlight and taillight lines. The haze present in the photograph was due to a layer of fog on my camera’s lens.

This photograph came off my camera as-is, and involved zero post-processing or Photoshop.
